What is the Canada BC Job Grant?

The Canada BC Job Grant is a program designed to encourage employers to enroll staff in skills training and development. As a cost-sharing program, it offsets training expenses for employers, with the government contributing two-thirds of the cost to a maximum of $10,000 per person

The program is accepting intakes for training beginning anytime between April 22 and September 30, 2016.  (Note: Applications must be submitted before training begins)

Training Eligibility

Eligible Trainings
  • Essential Skills: i.e. language, job-related skills, computer skills, etc.
  • Technical: i.e. machine training, software training, etc.
  • Business: i.e. sales, marketing, social media, inventory management, etc.
  • Management i.e. strategy development, leadership, HR, conflict management, etc.
  • Short-Term Certificates i.e. FoodSafe, First Aid, etc.
Eligible Expenses
  • Tuition fees or fees charged by a third-party training provider
  • Mandatory student fees
  • Exam fees
  • Fees for textbooks, software, and other supplies required for the delivery of the training
Ineligible Expense
  • Training provided internally (by internal staff)
  • Training for personal interest irrelevant to current or future positions of trainees
  • Coaching, Mentoring, Consulting, Business activities, Materials
  • Conferences, trade shows, workshops, memberships, work experience, and practicums

Training Provider

Eligibility Requirements
  • Provide training that include the listed types of training
  • Provide training as a primary business activity
  • Information about that training you provide is on your website
  • You are willing to share your course costs on your website
  • Course outlines are available for the courses that qualify under this program
Training Cost Limits provided per person
  • Leadership: $5,000 (Max. Training Cost: $7,500)
  • Marketing:  $3,000 (Max. Training Cost: $4,500)
  • Public Speaking: $1,000 (Max. Training Cost: $1,500)
  • Sales: $2,000 (Max. Training Cost: $3,000)
  • Social Media: $3,000 (Max. Training Cost: $4,500)
