About the Grant

The Digital Modernization and Adoption Program is a government initiative designed to empower Ontario’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the resources needed to adopt digital technologies and develop a digital transformation plan. The program connects businesses with expert Digital Adoption Consultants who work closely with them to create tailored Digital Modernization and Adoption Plans. With a focus on optimizing digital processes, the program offers eligible businesses up to $15,000 in funding to cover 50% of project costs. This funding helps SMEs access the latest digital technology insights, training, and strategies to support sustainable growth.

Who Is It For?

The program is designed for SMEs across all sectors, focusing on Ontario manufacturing businesses. Eligible applicants are expected to have between 1 and 499 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs) and a minimum of 10 FTEs for the current intake. Companies should demonstrate a solid internal structure that values growth, innovation, and an openness to implementing and sustaining new technologies.

Eligible Participants

While the program welcomes applicants from all industries, manufacturing businesses may have a competitive edge, as the program encourages companies in this sector to apply. The aim is to help companies create a solid foundation for scaling and optimizing their digital processes while maintaining a long-term commitment to innovation.

To qualify for this grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be federally or provincially incorporated with a valid business number.
  • Operate as a for-profit, privately owned business.
  • Employ between 1 and 499 full-time equivalent employees, with a preference for companies with ten or more FTEs.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to allocate resources toward digital transformation.
  • Have a change management culture that supports adopting new technologies and growth.
  • Be based in Ontario, with a permanent establishment in the province.
  • Show a clear understanding of the need for a digital strategy to guide their company’s growth.

Applicants must also co-fund their digital adoption project, covering at least 50% of eligible project costs. The program caps funding at $15,000, meaning companies must also be able to fund half of their project expenses.
