Empowering Youth Employment: Canada Summer Jobs

Program Overview

The Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, an integral part of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, is dedicated to offering comprehensive services to assist young Canadians in acquiring skills and securing paid work experience, crucial for their successful integration into the job market.

The CSJ program is aligned with the broader objectives of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, focusing on three core areas:

  • Providing Quality Work Experience: The program is designed to ensure that young people are offered valuable work opportunities that enhance their professional growth.
  • Addressing Unique Barriers: Recognizing the diverse challenges faced by youth, the program specifically aims to improve access to the labour market for those encountering specific obstacles.
  • Skill Development Opportunities: It emphasizes opportunities for youth to hone their skills, preparing them for future career prospects.

A notable aspect of the CSJ program is its provision of wage subsidies. These subsidies are available to organizations, including not-for-profits, public sector entities, and private sector organizations with up to 50 full-time employees. The objective is to create enriching summer job opportunities for young individuals aged 15 to 30.

The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring that all job opportunities funded by the CSJ are conducted in environments that are safe, inclusive, and healthy and are free from any form of harassment and discrimination.

To assist Service Canada in evaluating the eligibility and quality of projects, the CSJ Application Form gathers crucial information. This includes details about the applying organization’s health and safety practices, work environment policies, plans for supervision and mentoring, skill development strategies, and other pertinent information related to the organization and the proposed job roles.

Through these measures, the CSJ program is a platform for youth employment and a catalyst for fostering a productive and respectful work culture across various sectors.
